Former TV9 CEO fined ₹1,000 for ignoring ED summons

HYDERABAD: A special court dealing with cases of the Enforcement Directorate on January 20 imposed a fine of ₹1,000 on V. Ravi Prakash, former chief executive officer of TV9 Media Network, for failing to comply with a summons issued by the probe agency under Section 50 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
The court noted that Prakash did not appear before the Enforcement Directorate despite being directed to do so as part of an ongoing investigation. His failure to respond led the agency to file a complaint before the court.
After hearing the case, the ED court found Prakash guilty of non-compliance and imposed fines of ₹500 each under Sections 174 and 175 of the Indian Penal Code. The two sections deal with non-attendance in response to a lawful summons and failure to produce documents or information before a public servant.
The court made it clear that if Prakash fails to pay the fine, he will have to undergo simple imprisonment for one week for each offence, the order said.
