Former Additional SP Bhujanga Rao's Bail Extended Again

Hyderabad: Consecutively for the third time, Nampally court extended the bail for Nayini Bhujanga Rao, an accused in a phone tapping case that shook the state. He was arrested by Hyderabad police and lodged in Chanchalguda jail until his bail.

Rao, citing various heart-related ailments, first applied for interim bail, which the court granted the bail for 15 days on medical grounds and directed him to surrender on September 4, 2024.

The Petitioner has filed a petition seeking an extension of interim bail granted because he underwent Angioplasty and Stent Insertion Surgery on September 3, 2024, at a private hospital in Gachibowli, Hyderabad and is unable to surrender before the trial court. This medical procedure formed the basis for his second bail extension request.

Subsequently, the court extended the interim bail granted to Rao until the regular interim bail application petition was disposed. Later, the court allowed the extension of his interim bail until September 30, 2024. He is directed to surrender before the court on October 1, 2024.

Former Additional SP’s health woes keep him out of prison

Now, in the latest development, Rao has filed yet another petition seeking regular bail, along with a request for interim relief until its disposal.

The court’s decision to extend Rao’s bail has been influenced by several factors. The court noted, “Considering Rao’s medical condition and that he is taking rest and attending further medical tests as per medical advice, and that he is not fit to surrender before the trial court, this Court is of the considered view that it is a fit case to extend the interim bail granted to Rao till
the disposal of the regular bail application.”

The court in its order said, “The petition is allowed to extend the interim bail granted to Rao until the regular bail petition is disposed.” Meanwhile, the Special Public Prosecutor sought to consider the petition on merits without filing a counter and opposed the petition.
