Hotel associations promise clean and healthy food in Telangana

Food safety violations crackdown in hyderabad

Hyderabad: In recent times, there has been a series of crackdowns on various hotels and restaurants in the limits of Greater Hyderabad and other places in the state of Telangana. And violations were found in scores of these hotels. Following the crackdown, various hotel associations have said that they would be committed to ensure clean and healthy food in the state.

Government and Industry Collaborate for Clean and Healthy Food

The Minister for Health, Medical and Family Welfare C Damodar Rajanarsimha on June 11, 2024 convened a meeting for the representatives of various associations of hotels, restaurants, dairy and food industry at Dr BR Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat.

The ministry has released an official note regarding the same, where it said that the Commissioner of Food Safety and other officials of the department have emphasized the need for maintaining the required standards in production, distribution, storage and preparation of food items.

The minister further advised the Food Business Operators (FBOs) to strictly comply with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and other applicable norms. Minister also assured that the department would ensure firm implementation of the FSSAI Act and Regulations.

Further instructions were also given to the department to conduct workshops.
โ€œMinister has also instructed the authorities to conduct state-wide workshops every 6 months to increase awareness and provide training to the various stakeholders.โ€

Meanwhile, the associations present at the meeting have committed to extend their co-operation to the authorities in ensuring clean and healthy food in the state. They have also agreed to collaborate with the authorities in conducting awareness programmes, trainings and workshops

In the past couple of months, several hotels and restaurants, including high profile and branded restaurants have been found to be violating the food safety norms. Several violations including lack of labelling, usage of expired products, unhygienic kitchens, lack of proper certifications were found in outlets, following the inspections of the Food Safety Officials.
