Rat feces found at Jubilee Hills restaurant, dead lizard discovered at dairy near Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Continuing its crackdown on food safety violations in eateries, the Telangana Food Safety Department conducted inspections across the city on Saturday.
These inspections at two restaurants Kishkinda Kitchen (Kake di Hatti) and Poshnosh Lounge and Bar in Jubilee Hills uncovered various violations under Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
At Kishkinda Kitchen, the officials discovered a live cockroach infestation in the kitchen while the presence of rat feces in the storage unit suggested rodent infestation.
The officials also observed that water analysis reports, Fostac certificates and medical fitness certificates for the food handlers were unavailable. They were operating under unhygienic conditions in the kitchen room while the refrigerators were filled with food waste. They also found spoiled lemons and potatoes in the cooking area.
โThe drains in the kitchen were found to be clogged with food waste. Semi prepared food articles and raw materials, food and non-food items were found to be stored together,โ Food Safety Commissioner said.
The food safety inspectors found that the license of Poshnosh Lounge and Bar had expired in December 2024 and the eatery was operating without renewing it. The facility failed to present the water analysis reports, pest control records, Fostac certificates and medical records of employees to the officials.
Their kitchen was found to be operating under unhygienic conditions. The refrigerators were not defrosted and cleaned properly and the cooking area had no proper drainage. The vegetarian and non-vegetarian food items were not stored separately and many food items were dumped on the floor. The officials also found expired food items and the cashew nuts were found to be infested with insects.
Meanwhile, the food safety department conducted a similar inspection at the Shakti Milk and Milk Products factory in Jangaon district. During an inspection, the officials found that the facility was operating under unhygienic conditions, posing serious health risks to customers.
The inspectors discovered houseflies and mosquitoes in the stored ghee and a dead lizard near food items in the cold storage room. The equipment at the milk factory was not found sterilized and cleaned.
The officials discarded 720 kg of curd due to contamination and spoilage while 1,700 kg was seized for labelling violations. The seized material and the samples have been sent for laboratory analysis and the food safety inspectors will initiate appropriate action against the manufacturing unit in accordance with the FSS Act, 2006 and FSS Rules and Regulations, 2011.
