Food Safety Violations Found at CCMB

Hyderabad: The Food Safety Task Force has discovered multiple violations during an inspection of the canteen of the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) in Habsiguda. The facility was found operating without the mandatory Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) license and the Food Safety Training and Certification (FoSTaC) certificates.

During the inspection on Friday, officials identified several critical issues in the kitchen. Firstly, they were operating the business without an FSSAI license. The task force officials found the kitchen infested in the store room and rat droppings in its storage racks.

The canteen’s doors and windows did not have an additional layer to protect insects and mosquitoes from entering the kitchen. Also, the floor was patchy, and the tiles were broken in the food preparation area.

The food inspectors also found several expired food items in the kitchen including kasuri methi white corn flour, white sabudana and jaggery which had an expiry date of September 2024. The expired items were immediately discarded by the inspection team.

They also found that food articles stored in the cold room and refrigerator were not labelled. Additionally, food articles like atta bags are stored directly on the floor, and no gap was maintained between the bags and walls.
