Hyderabad: The Telangana State Commissioner of Food Safetyโ€™s Task Force conducted surprise inspections at various food establishments in Begumpet and Secunderabad areas. The inspections revealed several violations of food safety norms and regulations across multiple restaurants and food outlets.

Chillies Restaurant, Paradise Circle, Begumpet

During the raid at Chillies Restaurant, food safety officials found multiple violations. The restaurant reportedly failed to provide essential documents, including water analysis reports, employee health records, and FOSTAC certificates for food handlers.

A live cockroach infestation was also observed in the kitchen, and expired food articles were seized. Several food items in the refrigerator were uncovered, and no labeling was done.

Veg and non-veg food were stored together, and food and non-food items were mixed. Additionally, food handlers were not wearing the required hair caps, gloves, or other hygiene gear.

The kitchen had patchy flooring, food waste littered in some areas, and clogged drains filled with food waste.

Golden Dragon Restaurant, Parklane, Secunderabad

Similar violations were found at Golden Dragon Restaurant. Water analysis reports, employee health records, and FOSTAC certificates were absent. Synthetic food colors were found and discarded on suspicion of use in food preparations.

Expired raw chicken (8 kg) and leg boneless meat (2 kg) were discovered, with expiry dates of December 15 and December 17, 2024, respectively. Unlabeled noodle packs (32 kg) were seized.

Food waste made the kitchen floor slippery, and debris clogged the drains. Food handlers were found working without aprons, hair caps, or gloves. Additionally, windows lacked insect-proof screens, and refrigerators were unhygienic with unlabelled food items. Veg and non-veg foods were again stored together in the fridge.

Sarvi Restaurant and Bakery, MG Road, Secunderabad

Food safety violations at Sarvi Restaurant and Bakery were also significant. The establishment reportedly failed to provide water analysis reports, employee health records, and FOSTAC certificates.

Containers used for preparing cakes were found to be rusted, and various food items, including cashew biscuits, Osmania biscuits, and Bournvita biscuits, were unlabelled with missing manufacturing and best-before dates.

The kitchen was untidy and unhygienic, and the windows lacked insect-proof screens. The refrigerator was found to be unsanitary, with a rusted lid. Temperature records were not maintained, and vegetables were stored in plastic trays, which were unhygienic.

Food handlers were also found not wearing necessary protective gear, such as aprons, hair caps, and gloves. In the kitchen, clogged drains filled with food waste were observed.
