Food safety team finds expired food, synthetic colours at Medchal dhaba
HYDERABAD: The Cyberabad Commissionerate’s CMC Food Safety team detected several food safety and hygiene violations during a routine inspection at Baisakhi Family Dhaba in Kandlakoya, Medchal, on July 3, 2026.
Inspectors found that the restaurant had not displayed its Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licence or trade licence at the premises. They also discovered expired baby corn and black pepper masala and discarded both items immediately.
Poor hygiene and missing records
The team found that the management had not maintained medical fitness certificates for food handlers. It also failed to keep pest control records and water quality testing reports.
Inspectors noticed that the kitchen remained open to the outside environment without protective mesh. They also found open dustbins, unlabelled semi-prepared food items, and dead flies inside a refrigerator, raising concerns over hygiene standards.
Improvement notice recommended
The inspection team found synthetic food colours being used in Chinese food preparations. Officials discarded the colours on the spot.
Inspectors also seized rusted iron knives used for food preparation and instructed the management to replace them with food-grade stainless steel knives.
Based on the violations, the food safety team recommended issuing an improvement notice and directed the management to take immediate corrective measures.
The establishment scored 70 out of 110 marks (63%) in the hygiene assessment conducted during the inspection.
