Why the Food Safety Department took action against Hyderabad’s Sweekar Hotel

HYDERABAD: The Food Safety Department has initiated action against Sweekar Hotel at Kachiguda X Roads after an inspection found multiple food safety and hygiene violations, including contaminated vegetables, poor sanitation, improper food storage and labelling lapses.
Contaminated vegetables and poor kitchen hygiene detected
Food safety officials found fungal-contaminated cabbage, lemons affected by citrus canker and rotten tomatoes during the inspection. They also found boiled potatoes being used without proper cleaning and peeling.
The inspection revealed poor sanitation, housefly infestation and unhygienic kitchen conditions. Prepared food was stored uncovered and without labels inside refrigerators.
Cross-contamination risk and record-keeping lapses
Officials found raw vegetables stored alongside semi-prepared food, including boiled noodles, increasing the risk of cross-contamination.
The inspection also found that the establishment did not have Food Safety Training and Certification (FoSTaC)-trained personnel. Records relating to employee health, pest control, water analysis and disposal of used cooking oil were not maintained.

Noodles seized over labelling violations
Officials seized packets of New Classic Hakka Noodles (700 g) under Form III after finding that the product lacked a batch number and nutritional information, in violation of the Food Safety and Standards (Labelling and Display) Regulations.
The Food Safety Department said necessary action has been initiated under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
The department advised all Food Business Operators to strictly comply with food safety and hygiene standards to safeguard public health.
