Fire incident at Telangana Forensic Science Laboratory, Nampally, Hyderabad

Hyderabad: A fire broke out at the Telangana Forensic Science Laboratory (TGFSL) in Nampally on Friday morning, causing damage to facilities on the first floor of the building but leaving all personnel safe, officials said.

Fire spotted by staff, alarms triggered promptly

The incident occurred at around 10.08 IST and was first noticed by an employee who saw smoke emerging from a room on the first floor of the Telangana Forensic Science Laboratory building. The staffer alerted colleagues and informed the Inspector of Police posted at TGFSL, while using a fire extinguisher to douse the flames. The smoke alarm system on the floor was also activated.

Fire department brings blaze under control

Fire tenders reached the laboratory within minutes after the Fire Department was alerted. Officials said the blaze was fully brought under control by around 13.30 IST.

Damage limited; probe ordered into cause

The fire caused damage to the computer forensic laboratory, the training hall and certain other facilities on the first floor. No loss of life or injuries were reported. A complaint has been lodged with the local police station, and an investigation has been initiated to ascertain the cause of the fire. Authorities said an assessment of the damage is under way, adding that most case property and forensic material remained intact.

The Director of TGFSL urged restraint, cautioning against “unverified and unsubstantiated claims” regarding the cause of the fire and the extent of losses, and said conclusions should await the outcome of the police investigation.
