Fire breaks out at mechanic workshop in Nampally, Hyderabad

Hyderabad: A fire broke out at a mechanic workshop in Nampally on Tuesday night, March 4, 2025, causing panic in the area. The fire started in a shed at Patel Nagar, a mixed residential and commercial locality in central Hyderabad.
Fire officials suspect a short circuit may have caused the blaze, which quickly spread due to the presence of fuel bottles in the workshop. The shed, where Bosch pumps were being repaired with diesel and petrol, was filled with flammable materials, contributing to the rapid spread of the fire.
Residents in the densely populated area were alarmed, but fire tenders arrived promptly and managed to contain the fire, preventing a major disaster. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Earlier, on Friday evening, February 28, 2025, three people tragically died from smoke inhalation in a fire that broke out in the Puppalaguda area of Manikonda, Hyderabad. The fire, caused by a short circuit, began in the parking area of a two-story building, burning two cars and filling the structure with thick smoke.
The victims were identified as Jameela Khatun (65), Shahana Khatun (30), and Shiraj Khatoon (4). The three were on the first floor when thick smoke engulfed the building. In an attempt to escape, they locked themselves in a room, but the lack of ventilation caused them to lose consciousness and die.
Fire and HYDRAA DRF teams were called to the scene for rescue operations. Regional Fire Officer Jayaprakash confirmed that the victims died from smoke inhalation and warned that inhaling carbon monoxide could lead to unconsciousness and be fatal.
Jayaprakash also advised that in the event of a fire, people should exit the building quickly. If this isn’t possible, they should move to the top floor and wait for help. He emphasized the importance of using stairs, not lifts, during a fire and warned that even small amounts of smoke can cause unconsciousness over time.
While the fire did not spread to the first floor, the thick smoke was enough to claim the victims’ lives.
