FIR filed after firecracker accident at Bharat Mata Maha Harati celebration at Hussain Sagar

Hyderabad: An FIR was filed at the Secretariat Police Station on January 26, 2025, in connection with a fire accident during the ‘Bharat Mata Maha Harati’ event held at Hussain Sagar Lake, Hyderabad.

According to the FIR, a complaint was received on the night of January 26, 2025, at approximately 11:30 p.m. from G. Prabhudas, a 43-year-old unit manager at Lumbini Park, Hyderabad. Prabhudas stated that the Bharat Mata Foundation organizes the annual event, which was held this year at People’s Plaza with Chief Guest, Union Minister Kishan Reddy.

As part of the celebration, firecrackers were used, for which a boat and jetty (platform) were arranged. Between 8:30 and 9:00 p.m., a firecracker went off course and struck the boat, causing the entire set of firecrackers to ignite, resulting in a fire. The boat and jetty were damaged, and several individuals on the boat sustained burn injuries.

The injured persons were later identified as Ganapathi, Firecracker Operator, Palle Pranith, Boat Driver, Dubasi Sunil, Boat Driver.

Following the incident, rescue operations were carried out, and the injured were transported to Yashoda, Gandhi, and Sarojini Hospitals for treatment. Three victims, suffering from eye injuries, are receiving care at Sarojini Hospital in Mehdipatnam, while others are being treated at Yashoda and Gandhi Hospitals.

Union Minister Kishan Reddy, along with BJP leaders, visited the hospitals to check on the condition of the victims. The police have registered a case and are investigating whether negligence in handling the firecrackers or ensuring safety contributed to the accident.

The case has been filed under Fire Accident, Cr. No. 09/2025 at the Secretariat Police Station. Further investigations are ongoing.
