Revanth Reddy orders mini sewerage plan for Financial District

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board has been directed to prepare a mini sewerage master plan for the rapidly developing Nanakramguda Financial District corridor to meet future sewage requirements.
Water Board managing director Ashok Reddy issued the directions after inspecting Gachibowli, Nanakramguda and the Financial District along with senior officials, following instructions from Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.
Plan to factor in future sewage load
During the inspection, officials briefed the managing director on current sewage generation and the existing sewerage network in the area. Ashok Reddy asked them to design mini sewerage plans aligned with projected growth, focusing on strengthening sewer lines and trunk mains.
He also directed officials to compile and study details of existing drains, stormwater channels and trunk mains in the region.
2047 master plan framework
To prevent sewage from entering the Musi river and nearby lakes, Ashok Reddy instructed officials to separate sewage pipelines from stormwater drains. He asked them to submit proposals for constructing sewerage trunk mains and sub-sewer lines in line with the 2047 master plan.
He emphasised coordination between the operations and maintenance wing and the sewage treatment plant (STP) division for effective implementation.
STP capacity enhancement proposals
Officials were asked to estimate sewage generation in the Nanakramguda STP catchment area and initiate steps to augment treatment capacity to meet future demand. Ashok Reddy also sought proposals to lay a sewer trunk main to divert sewage generated between Gachibowli and Kokapet to the Kokapet STP for treatment.
Plans were also ordered to divert sewage from downstream areas of Kokapet to nearby Chitrapuri and Ibrahim Cheruvu STPs.
Nanankramguda STP inspection
Earlier, the managing director inspected the 4.5 million litres per day STP at Nanakramguda, reviewed the treatment process, and sought details on capacity and treated water quality. He asked officials to study whether the plant could handle additional sewage from surrounding areas or if capacity expansion or a new STP would be required.
He also directed the development of a dedicated mobile application to record and monitor real-time data and statistics of all STPs.
Reuse of treated water
Ashok Reddy instructed officials to supply treated water from the Nanakramguda STP for use at a golf course and along the Outer Ring Road. He asked them to prepare a detailed project report for laying pipelines to distribute treated water for landscaping and gardening along the ORR corridor.
Chief general managers Padmaja and Vasa Satyanarayana, along with other officials, participated in the inspection.
