Shaikpet: Film Nagar police arrested a thief who stole a bag from a person who went to a mosque near seven tombs to offer prayer. The police have recovered a gold necklace and two laptops from his possession on Saturday.

The accused was identified as Mohd Amer resident of Mehdipatnam, Hyderabad.

In June Film Nagar police received a complaint regarding the theft of a bag containing a laptop and a gold necklace weighing three thulas from Aqsa Masjid, located near Seven Tombs Road, Shaikpet.

On 24 June, the complainant who was on his way to home while passing Shaikpet, he found a Masjid namely Aqsa near Seven Tombs Road. As it is a special day for Muslim community, the complaint at around 1: 30 in the afternoon went to Masjid to offer his prayers. When entering the masjid, kept his bag at a corner in the Masjid. After offering his prayer, when he came out and saw the place where he kept the bag, he was shocked to find his bag was missing. Subsequently he enquired with the Imam of the Masjid and other people, who have come for prayer in the masjid. But all his effort went in vain. Subsequently he with the help of masjid members verified the CCTV footage, it is found that some unknown person is taking his bag. Subsequently he approached the film nagar police and lodged a complaint.

The Film Nagar crime staff swiftly acted on the complaint, gathering and verifying technical evidence, and apprehended the accused at Seven Tombs, Shaikpet. Investigation revealed that the accused, who frequented the masjid under the guise of prayer, took advantage of the congregational prayer time to steal bags and two-wheelers from the premises before fleeing. The accused has a history of multiple arrests and jail terms from various police stations in Hyderabad. He was released from jail in July 2023 and resumed his criminal activities, specifically targeting bikes and laptops across Hyderabad.

The arrest was executed under the supervision of N. Jayaram (Detective Inspector of Police), J. Srikanth Reddy (DSI), head constable (HC) R. Seetharam Nayak, and Imtiaz Hussain police constable(PC). The team’s swift action, thorough investigation, and effective interrogation skills were appreciated by their superior officers.
