BALANAGAR: Congress MLA from Jadcherla, J Anirudh Reddy, faced protests from farmers in Balanagar on Monday over the Regional Ring Road (RRR) project. The farmers, including several women, confronted the MLA, expressing fears of losing their lands and livelihoods if the government proceeded with acquisition for the project.

The MLA was attending a house warming ceremony of an Indiramma House beneficiary at Panchakula Gadda Thanda when the farmers reached the venue. They sought his intervention to prevent what they termed as forced acquisition.

Women farmers alleged that the State government was sparing lands owned by landlords and corporate firms while targeting small and marginal farmers for acquisition. They said they depended entirely on cultivation for survival and warned that loss of farmland would push them into financial hardship and force many to migrate for work.

Anirudh Reddy attempted to pacify the protesters and assured them that he would take up the issue with the government. The farmers dispersed only after his assurance.
