Hyderabad: Fake tantrik arrested for cheating woman in the name of rituals to ward off evil

Hyderabad: Kachiguda police on Saturday arrested a self-styled godman for threatening a woman and cheating her by claiming her daughter’s horoscope was inauspicious.
Addressing a press conference, DCP East Zone Balaswamy and Additional DCP Narasaiah said, the accused person, Arigela Sambashivudu alias Guruji Shiva Swamy, is a native of Guntur in Andhra Pradesh. Victim Geeta, who works as a receptionist at Vasishta Junior College in Dilsukhnagar, was going through some personal problems after losing her husband last year.
The college principal reportedly introduced Geeta, who was vulnerable after her husband’s death, to Guruji Shiva Swamy. Geeta has a daughter who is studying MBBS in a medical college, the police officer said.
During one of the visits, the self-styled godman claimed that her daughter’s horoscope shows that she might take her own life or get murdered after her marriage. He claimed to offer a permanent solution to her problem and insisted on performing a session of tantric rituals to “ward off evil,” the official added.
Believing his words, Geeta initially paid Rs. 1.7 lakh to the godman. Later, the accused extorted 26 tolas of gold and took house documents under the pretext of further pujas. He even made her travel to Srikalahasti claiming he would perform further rituals there.
In another news, Balanagar police apprehended two persons after they were allegedly found in the possession of ganja. The police seized 650 grams of ganja from them. Based on credible inputs, the police team intercepted two factory workers at Narsapur cross roads and seized the weed from them.
