DCA seizes fake ayurvedic medicines in Saroornagar

SAROORNAGAR: Hyderabad, be careful next time when buying medicines related to ‘Obesity’, ‘Rheumatism’, ‘Paralysis’, ‘Menorrhagia’, ‘Dysmenorrhea’, and ‘Uterine bleeding’ you might be duped by the fake medicines. Dozens of fake Ayurvedic medicines claimed to treat these medical issues are released into the market which is a blatant violation of Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.
Drugs Control Administration, Telangana officials, conducted a special drive on 29th and 30th April and detected medicines circulating in the market with misleading and objectionable advertisements. The raids were conducted by V. Ravikumar, Drugs Inspector, Balapur, J. Nagaraju, Drugs Inspector, Saroornagar along with other officers under the guidance of Anjum Abida, Assistant Director, Rangareddy.
The list of seized Ayurvedic medicines in Balapur and Saroornagar areas released by DCA officials include, Ortho joint Oil for Rheumatism and Paralysis),PCOD (Uterine Capsules) for Menorrhagia, Dysmenorrhea, Uterine bleeding and OBEKAR Capsules for Obesity, manufactured by Lexine Technochem Pvt Ltd, Vadodara-Gujarat, and Sri Vishnu Biotec Formulations, Ganapavaram(V), Nadendla(M), Guntur Dist, Andhra Pradesh respectively.
Misleading advertisements are prohibited
“Advertising a medicine for the treatment of ‘Rheumatism’, ‘Paralysis’, ‘Menorrhagia’, ‘Dysmenorrhea’, ‘Uterine bleeding’, and ‘Obesity’ is prohibited under the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954,” said DCA officials in official statement.
The officials further added that the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954 prohibits advertisement of certain drugs for treatment of certain diseases and disorders. No person shall take part in publication of advertisement regarding the diseases/disorders indicated under Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.
DCA officials said that they would carry out further investigation and take action as per the law against all the offenders. Persons who make misleading advertisements regarding drugs for treatment of certain diseases and disorders are punishable under Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954, with imprisonment which may extend to six months, or with fine, or with both.
