HYDERABAD: Bharat Future City link to boost Fab City projects

HYDERABAD: Information technology, electronics and semiconductor industries are set to come up in the Fab City area near Tukkuguda, close to the Outer Ring Road. Officials from the revenue and industries departments are preparing plans to link these units with the proposed Bharat Future City.
The state government recently decided to exclude 922 acres of the Fab City Special Economic Zone (SEZ) from SEZ limits to facilitate new investments. With Bharat Future City coming up just 15 km away, officials aim to attract ₹5,000 crore in investments within a year by developing more IT, electronics and industrial units along the corridor.
Focus on semiconductors, energy storage units
Two decades ago, Fab City was planned as a hub for semiconductor manufacturing, but the sector failed to take off and nearly 1,000 acres remained unused. Following the Centre’s renewed push for semiconductor industries, state officials have decided to prioritise semiconductor and energy storage units at Fab City, along with IT and electronics industries.
Authorities estimate that once operational, these projects could generate direct and indirect employment for around 15,000 people.
Connectivity and infrastructure boost
Special roads and infrastructure will connect Fab City and Bharat Future City. Currently, the Hyderabad–Srisailam Road and Shamshabad–Gachibowli stretch of the Outer Ring Road provide access. Additionally, a new 330-foot road is being planned from Kongarkalan to Future City.
Officials are also considering a metro rail link between the airport and Future City, besides developing a new road from Shamshabad via Tukkuguda to the district collectorate. The improved connectivity is expected to benefit companies such as Foxconn and two other major industrial units in the region.
