Expired food, pest-infested suji found at Reliance Retail store in Kompally
HYDERABAD: Food Safety officials seized expired food items and pest-infested suji during an inspection at a Reliance Retail Store in Kompally. They also flagged several food safety and storage violations.
According to the Commissioner of Food Safety, officials found 14 packs of expired Cuppa Oats, one pack of Blue Bird Veg Jelly and six bags of expired Fortune Sona Masoori rice. They also discovered suji infested with pests.
The inspection uncovered poor store maintenance and improper stock management. The store failed to follow the first-in, first-out (FIFO) stock rotation system. Staff stored food products without pallets, while rice, pulses, spices and millets remained in open bins without proper segregation.
Officials seized the expired products and the pest-infested suji. They will issue an improvement notice, directing the store to fix the violations.
Despite the lapses, the outlet displayed a valid Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licence. Officials found FoSTaC training records and pest control records in place. Food handlers maintained personal hygiene, and the store kept dairy products under the required cold chain.
The outlet scored 128 out of 165 (78%) in the hygiene assessment.
In a separate development, officials said Mehfil Restaurant has installed live kitchen display screens after a recent inspection. The move aims to improve transparency and strengthen consumer confidence.
