CM Revanth Orders Expansion of GHMC Boundaries
Hyderabad: Officials are making arrangements to extend the jurisdiction of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) up to the Outer Ring Road(ORR) of the state capital, Hyderabad. Municipalities and Panchayat unions in Rangareddy and Medchal districts are being merged to form the GHMC to facilitate this expansion. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has instructed officials to complete this process by June. Additionally, discussions with the Chief Minister are underway to finalize decisions regarding expansion of GHMC boundaries, as indicated by a senior officer.
Opportunity for Additional Divisions
Officials extend GHMC divisions after parliamentary elections and local election code. GHMC currently has 150 divisions, housing 74 lakh voters. Authorities aim to increase divisions to 50 or 60, estimating up to 60 lakh voters. They consider expanding divisions to 210, presenting it as a possibility to CM Revanth Reddy. CM may approve this plan, aligning with his vision for Greater Hyderabad.
Expansion Plans
The government is allocating resources to accommodate these expansions. Plans include merging organizations located around the ORR into the GHMC. The Chief Minister has instructed officials to implement the expansion of GHMC boundaries plan within three months. While officials from the municipal administration department are actively involved in executing the plan.
