Excise Enforcement seizes Rs. 15.9 Lakh worth of jaggery in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: In a major operation in the Pahadi Shareef area of Hyderabad, a gang smuggling jaggery and ginger, allegedly for the production of illicit liquor, was busted by the Excise Enforcement CI teams. A case has been registered against six individuals, with four arrested, following the seizure of goods valued at Rs 15.90 lakh.
The operation, carried out under the supervision of Ranga Reddy Assistant Commissioner R Kishan, involved Enforcement CI officers Balaraj, Chandrasekhar, and their team. Acting on a tip-off, the officers intercepted a DCM truck and two autorickshaws in Pahadi Shareef. The DCM was found carrying 5,520 kg of jaggery, while the two autos contained 2,340 kg of jaggery and 40 kg of ginger.
In total, the enforcement team seized the jaggery, the vehicles, and Rs 1.07 lakh in cash. The suspects were about to transport the consignment to Devarakonda Neruduguda area when they were apprehended. The case has been handed over to the Saroornagar Excise Police Station for further investigation.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Sivakanth, Mohammed Baba, Arun Naik, and Hira Singh, while two other suspects, Naresh and Srinu, are currently absconding. During interrogation, the accused confessed to regularly sourcing jaggery from the Basava Kalyanam area in Karnataka, storing it in Pahadi Shareef, and selling it for use in illicit liquor production.
Director of Excise Enforcement V.B. Kamalasan Reddy commended the enforcement teams for their successful operation in cracking down on the illegal activity.
