Former Bodhan MLA Shakeel Aamir arrested at Shamshabad airport
Hyderabad: Former Bodhan MLA Shakeel Aamir was arrested this morning after he landed at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Hyderabad to attend the funeral of his mother.
He is accused of allegedly attempting to cover up the road mishap involving his son Raheel Shakeel and later helping him escape to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Following the escape to Dubai, the police had issued a lookout notice against Raheel. It was reported that the former legislator tried to shield his son by producing his driver Abdul Asif as the accused before the police to mislead the investigation into the car accident.
On the night of December 24, 2023, Raheel crashed his BMW car into an iron barricade near Praja Bhavan. He had three friends in his car at the time of the accident and no one was injured. The next day a case was registered with Panjagutta police and lookout notices were issued against Shakeel Aamir and two of his relatives for helping his son escape to Dubai.
Raheel was arrested last April upon his arrival in the city after hiding in Dubai for over three months. He is the main accused in an accident near the Telangana Praja Bhavan in December 2023. According to police, Raheel, under the influence of alcohol, rammed his car into barricades situated in front of the government building.
