HYDERABAD: An official response to a Right to Information (RTI) application has disclosed major staffing shortages and administrative uncertainty at the Government Hospital for Mental Care in Erragadda.

The information provided to Hyderabad based RTI activist Sashi Kumar on February 13, 2026, indicates that multiple key employment data categories are marked as NA (Not Available), raising concerns about the hospital’s human resource planning and compliance.

According to the RTI data, the hospital shared copies of its approved staff numbers and current job openings, but almost all other information about hiring and staff was missing.

The RTI reply contains a table with responses to specific queries. The Sanctioned Strength and Current Vacancy strength were provided as enclosed copies. However, when asked about recent recruitments, the response was simply ‘Nil’.

Even more worrying, many other questions were answered with ‘not available.’ These included the total number of regular staff, how direct hiring is going, promotion numbers, the list for reserved jobs, and whether the hospital is following National Medical Commission rules. Requests for more staff and money set aside for hiring were also not given.

The only numerical data provided was in response to a question about the number of employees retiring in the next 12 months, for which the hospital stated as 6. Service rules were also marked as “NA.”

Sashi Kumar, had sought the information under the RTI Act 2005 on January 9, 2026. The hospital’s response was routed through multiple reference letters, including one from the Telangana State Information Commission.

The missing information about hiring, promotions, and following NMC rules, along with no recent hiring, shows that there are still problems with how the hospital is run. With six employees set to retire in the coming year, not having a clear plan for hiring or promotions could make staff shortages worse and raise worries about whether the hospital can keep giving good care.
