Electricity Staff Assaulted Over Unpaid Bills in KPHB Colony

Hyderabad: An electricity department staff member was assaulted by the consumer and a group of people under KPHB police station limits in Hyderabad on Friday. The incident occurred when the employee went to the residence of the consumer on Road number 2 to disconnect the electricity connection to his house.

According to details, the outsourcing employee Bandaru Ramesh of TGSPDCL (Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited) went to Hussainโ€™s residence and threatened him of disconnecting the power supply if the outstanding dues are not cleared. The consumer started arguing with the staff claiming the bill was quite high.

Ramesh proceeded to disconnect the electricity supply to the house. This action triggered the property owner who then physically attacked the TGSPDCL employee and he was joined by a group of people in thrashing. They also damaged his two-wheeler.

Following the incident, the KPHB police have registered a case against the attackers and an investigation is underway.

A few months ago, a similar incident happened in the Moti Nagar area of the city. An engineering student thrashed two electricity department workers over a dispute on unpaid power bills. The video of an attack on power department staff went viral on various social media platforms.

A consumer identified as Venkataswamy had not paid electricity dues amounting to Rs. 6,858. A line inspector H Srikanth and metre reader P Sai Ganesh went to Raoโ€™s residence and asked him to clear the pending dues. However, the consumer and his son T Muralidhar Rao refused to pay the dues and threatened the employee who then disconnected the power supply to his house. Enraged over this, Rao started physically attacking and assaulting both employees.

Even though the family members of Rao intervened, the young man continued to punch the staff members. Ganesh received injuries to his face and eyes while Srikantha suffered internal injuries. Based on a complaint by lineman Srikanth, Sanath Nagar police filed a case against the accused.
