ERO seeks probe into alleged fake voter ID distribution in Jubilee Hills

HYDERABAD: An electoral registration officer has sought an investigation after a newspaper report alleged that fake voter identity cards were distributed in the Yousufguda area. The report, published in the Telugu daily Namasthe Telangana, claimed that a local leader was involved in the illegal distribution of forged Elector’s Photo Identity Cards (EPICs), in violation of Election Commission of India (ECI) procedures.
The complaint, received on October 6, 2025, at 19.10 IST, was submitted by G. Rajinikanth Reddy, Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) for the 61-Jubilee Hills Assembly Constituency. In his written submission, Reddy described the issue as one of “utmost importance” and requested that a “thorough investigation” be conducted to verify the allegations and take action if required.
Media reports following the publication have identified Jubilee Hills Congress leader Naveen Yadav as the person alleged to have distributed the voter ID cards. Madhura Nagar police have reportedly registered a case and initiated an inquiry into possible violations of election norms.
Election officials have noted that the distribution, verification, and replacement of voter ID cards are governed by strict procedures under the Election Commission’s guidelines. Any unauthorised issuance or manipulation of these documents constitutes a serious offence under electoral and criminal laws. The police investigation will determine whether any procedural violations or fraudulent practices occurred.
