KODAD: The Enforcement Directorate on Monday conducted searches at the residence of a relative of a rice miller accused of diverting Custom Milled Rice (CMR) in Kodad town of Suryapet district.

Searches target rice mill-linked properties

The raids focused on houses linked to Neela Satyanarayana, owner of Sri Venkateswara Rice Industries, located on the outskirts of Kodad.

₹50 crore worth of grain allegedly diverted

Officials said the mill had been lifting paddy from procurement centres for CMR every year but failed to deliver rice to the government for nearly a decade. Last year, civil supplies and revenue officials carried out joint inspections at the mill and found no grain in stock, indicating diversion. The value of the diverted paddy was then estimated at over ₹50 crore, officials said.

ED tracks money trail

Based on a complaint by the departments, a case was registered. ED officials are now probing where the sale proceeds of the diverted grain went. As part of the probe, searches were carried out at properties belonging to Satyanarayana’s close relatives in Kodad.

During the searches, officials seized documents detailing paddy lifted from the government and rice delivered so far, sources said.
