Election Commission Imposes Exit Poll Ban For Jubilee Hills Bypoll

HYDERABAD: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced a ban on conducting and publishing exit polls for the forthcoming Jubilee Hills Assembly Constituency bye-election. District Election Officer and GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan said in a statement that the prohibition will be in effect from 07.00 IST on November 6, 2025 (Thursday) to 18.30 IST on November 11, 2025 (Tuesday).

According to Notification No. 576/EXIT/2025/SDR/Vol.I, dated October 13, 2025, the restriction applies to all forms of media, including print, electronic, and digital platforms such as television, radio, newspapers, social media, and online channels.

Penal action for violations under RP Act

Any violation of the ban will invite penal action under Section 126A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, which provides for imprisonment up to two years, or fine, or both.

Additionally, under Section 126(1)(b) of the Act, publication or display of election matter—including opinion polls and survey results—is strictly prohibited during the 48-hour period preceding the close of polling.

Media, parties told to comply

Karnan urged media organisations, political parties, and digital influencers to adhere strictly to these statutory provisions to ensure free, fair, and transparent elections.
