Hyderabad Thieves Drill Wall, Steal 18kg Silver From Dundigal Shop

HYDERABAD: Burglars made a hole in the wall of a jewellery shop at Bowrampet under Dundigal police station limits and escaped with around 18kg of silver ornaments.

According to police, Mothkuri Someshwar, who has been running Someshwar Jewellery at Bowrampet for the past five years, closed his shop at 8.45pm on Friday and went home. When his employee Arun Kumar opened the shop on Saturday morning, he found a hole in the wall and silver ornaments missing.

Someshwar lodged a complaint with Dundigal police. He said that two persons had rented the adjacent shutter room, claiming they would clean it at night. Police suspect the burglars drilled through the common wall from that room and entered the shop.

DVR, hard disk taken to erase CCTV footage

Investigators said the burglars also took away the shop’s DVR and hard disk to destroy CCTV evidence. Assistant Commissioner of Police Shankar Reddy and Dundigal inspector Bal Reddy visited the spot and examined the premises.

Preliminary inquiry revealed that the neighbouring room, earlier used as a puja store, had been shut for a week. Two days ago, a man paid an advance of ₹10,000 saying he would rent it. Police believe the theft was executed from there.

A case has been registered and investigation is on.
