Dubai driver Basheer Kaipurath wins ₹24 lakh lottery
DUBAI: After more than two years of waiting, an Indian expatriate working as a driver in Dubai has won Dh100,000 (around ₹24 lakh) in a lottery draw.
Two years of persistence pays off
Basheer Kaipurath, 57, from Kerala, has been living in the UAE for the past 25 years. He has been buying lottery tickets regularly every month, hoping that luck would eventually favour him.
His patience paid off when he won Dh100,000 with ticket number 276640 in an e-draw conducted by Big Ticket.
‘Couldn’t believe it at first’
Basheer said he initially could not believe the call informing him of the win and is still trying to come to terms with it. He purchased the ticket under a limited-period offer that gave three tickets for the price of two.
He plans to share part of the prize money with his family in India and said perseverance and patience never go unrewarded. He also said he would continue participating in future draws.
Another recent Indian winner
Earlier, Ritesh Dhanak, a 52-year-old computer teacher from Gujarat, won around ₹25 lakh in a separate draw. Dhanak, who has been living in Dubai with his family for nearly 30 years, bought the ticket jointly with friends after regularly purchasing tickets for over a decade.
Big Ticket is one of the most popular raffle draws in the UAE, offering cash prizes and luxury cars. Though based in Abu Dhabi, it attracts participants from across the country, including Dubai. The draws are held every month.
Tickets are available through the official Big Ticket website, at Abu Dhabi International Airport, and at select authorised outlets. Participants must be 18 years or older.
