DSP Makes His Acting Debut with Spiritually Rooted Film ‘Yellamma’

HYDERABAD: Celebrated music composer Devi Sri Prasad (DSP) will make his lead acting debut in the pan-India film ‘Yellamma’. The film is presented by producer Dil Raju, directed by National Award-winner Venu Yeldandi of ‘Balagam’ fame, and produced by Shirish under the Sri Venkateswara Creations banner.

Revealed during Makara Sankranthi festivities, the first glimpse of ‘Yellamma’ dazzles with vibrant visuals and a spiritual energy, weaving together native folklore and divine inspiration.

Devi Sri Prasad, known for his successful soundtracks across South Indian cinema for over two decades, will play the protagonist Parshi. He will also compose the film’s music, combining his acting and musical talents in this project.

The recently released preview opens with a mystical scene: a neem leaf caught in a whirlwind rises skyward, observed by a goat, then transforms into the Goddess as rain falls. The scene shifts to DSP, shirtless and strapping a drum around his waist, seated on a rock as the neem leaf descends behind him. Elements such as ankle bells, rugged footwear, turmeric, and vermillion suggest a narrative rich in cultural depth, spiritual conflict, and human emotion.

With long hair and a rugged appearance, Devi Sri Prasad brings authenticity to his role, generating interest and positive feedback from fans and industry professionals.

Director Venu Yeldandi, who received national recognition and a National Award for his debut film ‘Balagam’, returns with what is described as his most ambitious project. Renowned for his storytelling and nuanced portrayal of Telugu culture, Venu is expected to deliver a powerful and emotionally engaging narrative in ‘Yellamma’.

The film will be released in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi, aiming to reach audiences nationwide with its universal themes of faith, tradition, and transformation.

The announcement has stirred a wave of excitement, with many hailing it as a daring and thrilling new chapter for DSP. Producer Dil Raju, celebrated for championing meaningful cinema, voiced his faith in the film’s rare mix of spiritual depth and authentic storytelling.
