Man Caught On Video Driving Drunk On Tolichowki Flyover

Hyderabad: A video circulating on social media shows a man allegedly drinking beer while driving a car on the Tolichowki Flyover in Hyderabad around 1:50 a.m. on May 4. The incident reportedly occurred near the Imperial Hotel and was captured by a biker riding nearby.

The footage shows two men inside the vehicle. The driver appears to be consuming a beverage from a glass bottle suspected to be alcohol, raising concerns about road safety and increasing instances of drunk driving during late-night hours.

The video was posted on X (formerly Twitter) by Lokendra Singh (@HYDTrafficMan), who urged Hyderabad Police to take suo motu action. His post requested the authorities to book the accused under the following sections:

1. Section 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) – Act endangering life or personal safety of others

2. Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act – Drunken driving

3. Section 188 of the Motor Vehicles Act – Abetment of an offence

4. Section 3(5) of the BNS/IPC 34 – Common intention

Lokendra Singh also tagged senior police officials, including Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand, in his appeal.

In response, Hyderabad City Police replied, “Sir, we have shared this with concerned officers.”

Meanwhile, a special drunk driving check conducted over the weekend by Cyberabad Traffic Police led to the apprehension of 238 individuals. These included drivers of 187 two-wheelers, four three-wheelers, 45 four-wheelers, and two heavy vehicles.

Of those caught, 220 individuals had blood alcohol concentrations (BAC) ranging from 35 mg/100 ml to 200 mg/100 ml, 13 between 200 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml, and five between 301 mg/100 ml and 500 mg/100 ml. All accused will be produced before the court.

Police have reiterated that individuals caught driving under the influence and causing fatal accidents will be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, culpable homicide not amounting to murder, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years imprisonment and a fine.
