HYDERABAD: IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu on Tuesday launched diagnostic kits to detect drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB). These kits are manufactured in Genome Valley.

The kits are produced by French diagnostics company bioMérieux. This launch is an important step to improve TB detection and control in India, officials said.

Sridhar Babu said the move puts Telangana on the global map for advanced TB diagnostic solutions. He added that drug-resistant TB is a serious public health challenge. This is because it does not respond to standard treatment.

Therefore, early detection and timely treatment are very important. They help save lives and stop the spread of the disease, he said.

The minister also praised bioMérieux for supporting India’s efforts to eliminate TB, especially drug-resistant cases.

French firm expands footprint with ₹50 crore investment

bioMérieux was founded in 1963 and is a global leader in diagnostic solutions. It operates in more than 160 countries and has annual revenue of about $4 billion.

The company provides solutions for infectious diseases, cancer, and industrial microbiology.

So far, bioMérieux has invested around ₹50 crore in its Genome Valley facility. This has created about 100 jobs. In addition, the company plans to set up a research and development lab at the site.

India-France trade ties highlighted at event

Meanwhile, the Indo-French Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IFCCI) presented a report on India-France trade relations.

The report highlighted the growing role of French companies in Telangana’s development. It also noted their contribution to the state’s economic growth.
