Security breach at Telangana Secretariat, two held for drone flying

Hyderabad: A major security breach occurred at the Telangana State Secretariat, prompting Telangana Special Protection Force (TGSPF) personnel to apprehend two individuals for flying a drone over the government’s main building in Hyderabad.
After noticing the drone flying over the ‘vital installation,’ the security personnel located the drone operators and arrested them and also seized the drone from them. The incident occurred on the night of March and came to light later, TOI reported.
After receiving a complaint from TGSPF personnel, the Saifabad police registered a case against four people and launched an investigation.
The arrested persons have been identified as Yetala Vamshi, a camera operator and S Nagaraju, a supervisor (outsourcing) with GHMC.
Security personnel performing sentry duties at the South East Tower of the Secretariat noticed a drone ‘flying near the duty post and on the lawn area of Secretariat building premises’. They informed their superior officer who filed a case with the police. Notably, the state Secretariat is a very vital installation and falls under a high security zone and is also declared as ‘No Fly Zone.’
Last month, TGSPF detained the caller who had made a fake bomb threat to the Telangana Secretariat, claiming that a bomb had been planted and would be detonated on the premises.
The caller repeatedly contacted the Chief Minister’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) over the past three days with the same threat.
These bomb threats sent the security personnel into a tizzy who carried out a thorough inspection and confirmed that there were no explosives in the premises.
According to police, the suspect identified as a 22-year-old Syed Meer Mohammad Ali, had called the Secretariat’s landline to complain about a dargah in Langer Houz and when he did not get a proper response, he allegedly threatened to blow up the Secretariat.
Earlier, a man impersonating a revenue department employee with a fake ID card was apprehended by the police, raising concerns about security lapses at the at the Telangana Secretariat.
The suspect, identified as Bhaskar Rao from Khammam, posed as a junior assistant in the revenue department. His suspicious movements within the premises led to his identification. Following instructions from the Secretariat’s Chief Security Officer (CSO), Devidas, intelligence agencies were alerted. Special police force Intelligence ASI Yusuf and head constable Anjaneyelu gathered evidence and detained Bhaskar Rao.
