DRI seizes ₹4.1 crore hydroponic weed at RGIA, arrests passenger from Bangkok

Hyderabad: Acting on specific intelligence, officers of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Hyderabad Zonal Unit, intercepted an Indian passenger who arrived at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) from Bangkok.
Hydroponic weed worth ₹4.15 crore seized from false bottom of luggage
A detailed examination of the passenger’s baggage revealed packets of a greenish, lumpy substance hidden inside a false bottom. Field testing confirmed the substance to be cannabis, specifically hydroponic weed. The total quantity seized was 4.15 kg, with an illicit market value of approximately ₹4.15 crore.
The passenger was placed under arrest under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. DRI officials said further investigation is underway to trace the source and intended recipients of the contraband.
