DRI seizes Rs 7 crore hydroponic weed at Hyderabad Airport on Diwali

Hyderabad: Officers from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Hyderabad Zonal Unit, successfully intercepted two Indian passengers arriving from Bangkok at Hyderabad International Airport on October 31, 2024. The operation led to the seizure of 7.096 kilograms of hydroponic weed, valued at approximately Rs 7 crores in the illicit market.
Acting on specific intelligence, DRI officers conducted a systematic search of the passengers’ check-in luggage. Inside packets of Kellos chocolate, they discovered 13 vacuum-packed transparent packets containing a greenish substance in lumpy form. Field tests confirmed that the substance was marijuana.
The seized hydroponic weed has been confiscated, and the passengers were arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. They have since been remanded to judicial custody, and further investigation is currently underway.
