Hyderabad Dri Seizes ₹2.3 Crore Gold At Rgia, Passenger Arrested

HYDERABAD: Acting on specific intelligence, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Hyderabad Zonal Unit, intercepted a passenger who arrived from Kuwait to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad, via Sharjah, on October 16, 2025, by Air Arabia flight G9 467.

During a detailed examination of the passenger’s checked-in baggage, officers recovered five 24-carat gold bars and two cut pieces of gold bars, weighing a total of 1,798 grams and valued at ₹2.37 crore.

Smuggled gold concealed in door lock and food packet
The investigation revealed that the gold bars were ingeniously concealed inside a door’s metallic lock, while the cut pieces were hidden in a plastic pouch containing sunflower seeds.

The gold, determined to be of foreign origin, along with the concealment material, was seized under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962. The passenger was arrested, and further investigation is underway.
