Hyderabad residents demand action on persistent drainage leak in Deepthisree Nagar

Hyderabad: Residents of Deepthisree Nagar, Hyderabad, are calling for immediate intervention from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) to address a severe drainage leak that has persisted since August 5, 2024.
The leak is located opposite Hunger Hub and extends nearly to the Junior Primary School on Deepthisree Nagar Road, causing significant inconvenience for locals and commuters alike. Despite multiple complaints from residents, the issue remains unresolved.
Speaking with the Hyderabad Mail, Pavan Amarnath, a resident, expressed frustration over the ongoing problem. “The leakage starts opposite Hunger Hub and extends almost to Junior Junction Primary School. The work was started but left incomplete, and the leak continues,” he said. “I have tweeted twice about this issue. While I received responses, the work has not been completed. I wonder why GHMC is not coordinating with the water board to address these drainage issues promptly.”
Pavan Amarnath added, “The drainage leak has been an issue for several days, and the authorities seem unresponsive. They dug up the area a week ago but left it in disrepair. There is no communication or progress from the HMWSSB. Whenever it rains heavily, drainage leaks occur at Dharmpuri Temple Road and PJR Colony Road, with multiple outlets experiencing issues.”
He called upon the GHMC and the Zonal Commissioner to improve coordination with the HMWSSB and ensure the drainage leak is addressed without further delay.
This has become common now with the congress government.
If you update the grievance in GHMC App also they will not attend and update the grievance as closed. If you call they say this is not my department.— Diresh (@Diresh279728) August 12, 2024
Pavan Amarnath also took to ‘X,’ formerly known as Twitter, to highlight the issue, tagging relevant GHMC officials and questioning the lack of coordination between the GHMC and the water board. “Why is GHMC not coordinating with the water board to provide updates on drainage leaks? This issue has persisted for over a week.”
In response, an X user, Diresh (@Diresh279728), criticised the current administration, stating, “This has become a common issue under the Congress government. Even if you update your grievance in the GHMC app, it is often not attended to, and grievances are marked as closed without resolution. When you call, they claim it is not their department.”
Residents hope for swift action from the relevant authorities to resolve the drainage leak and alleviate the ongoing inconvenience.
