HYDRAA Chief slams six-floor violation at Dr. Shankar’s Hospital, RTC Crossroads

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) Commissioner A.V. Ranganath expressed strong displeasure over serious construction violations at Dr. Shankar’s Hospital near RTC Crossroads, Hyderabad, during an inspection on Friday, May 2, 2025.
Following a complaint lodged by local residents through the Prajavani Public Grievance Forum, the Commissioner visited the site and raised concerns over multiple irregularities. He noted that permission was granted only for a four-storey structure, yet the hospital has six floors, including a cellar, and allegedly encroaches on public roads.
“How can there be so many violations in the construction of a single building? Especially when it is a hospital, greater care and adherence to rules is expected,” Ranganath said.
He questioned how such a tall structure was approved in a residential area with access roads measuring only 10 feet on one side and 15 feet on the other. He demanded that the hospital owner, Dr. Shankar, produce the relevant building permits.
The Commissioner also took officials to task for allowing the hospital to operate without an Occupancy Certificate and sought clarity on how a hospital license was issued under these conditions.
Ranganath directed GHMC Secunderabad Zonal Chief Planner, Mr. Srinivas, to submit a detailed report. He was accompanied by HYDRAA Fire Department Additional Director Papayya, DFO Yagna Narayana, and other officials during the inspection.
The incident has raised serious concerns about building safety and regulatory oversight in densely populated residential areas.
