Doctor Saves Passenger Mid Air On Flight To Hyderabad Airport

Hyderabad: A 74-year-old passenger on an IndiGo flight from Delhi to Hyderabad Airport was revived mid-air after suffering a medical emergency, with a doctor on board stepping in to provide life-saving care.

The incident occurred around midnight on Saturday when the elderly man, flying alone, became unresponsive. He showed signs of distress, including foaming at the mouth, drooling, drowsiness, and loss of bladder control.

Dr. Preethi Reddy, a general physician and Managing Director of Mallareddy Vishwa Vidhyapeet, was among the passengers. She quickly assessed the situation and found the man had a weak pulse and critically low blood pressure. She immediately began CPR and succeeded in reviving him within minutes.

After regaining consciousness, the passenger revealed a history of hypertension and a prior cardiac angioplasty. Dr. Preethi Reddy continued to monitor him using the aircraft’s medical kit while the cabin crew coordinated with the command center at Hyderabad Airport.

Medical assistance, including an ambulance and an emergency doctor, was arranged on the ground. The passenger was shifted to a hospital for further treatment upon landing.

The coordinated effort between Dr. Preethi Reddy, the IndiGo crew, and airport staff ensured the man received prompt medical attention. Crew members and fellow passengers commended Dr. Preethi Reddy for her decisive response during the flight.
