Recover Hospital

HYDERABAD: A duty doctor allegedly died by suicide after injecting himself with poison at a private hospital in Hyderabad’s Mallapur area, police said on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Kashif Ahmed, a native of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh who was working as a duty doctor at Recover Hospital.

Addressing reporters, Balapur Circle Inspector M Sudhakar said Kashif had allegedly injected himself with poison and may have died late on Monday night.

“The reason for the suicide is unclear,” Sudhakar said.

Hospital staff found doctor unresponsive

According to police, the incident came to light when hospital staff received no response after repeatedly knocking on the door of the staff room. The staff later forced the door open and found Kashif unresponsive inside.

Police were subsequently alerted and shifted the body for further procedures.

Parents informed, probe underway

The officer said Kashif’s parents had been informed about his death and were travelling to Hyderabad.

Police have registered a case of suspicious death under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and launched an investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident.
