Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said that the Congress government is committed to thoroughly reform the education system and enhance educational standards. He made these remarks during the inauguration of the Common Diet.

He emphasized that the government is working towards developing students’ skills and involve them as active partners in the reconstruction of Telangana state. He noted that there is a long held misconception among people that students in private schools are more talented than those in government schools.

Stressing on the need for eliminating such misconceptions, the chief minister said that many individuals who studied in residential schools have gone on to become IAS and IPS officers. He highlighted that both Burra Venkatesham (IAS) and Mahender Reddy (IPS) were former students of residential schools.

Criticizing the previous government for failing to give proper priority to diet, personal care, and infrastructure needs, Revanth Reddy mentioned that his government has decided to significantly raise diet charges by 40 percent and cosmetic charges by 200 percent for boarding students in welfare and residential hostels of SC/ST, BC and Minority, and other institutions.

“A total of 23 lakh students are currently studying in 26,000 government schools across the state, while 33 lakh students are enrolled in 11,000 private schools,” Revanth Reddy remarked.

Revanth Reddy stated that officials and public representatives have been instructed to visit residential schools/Gurukuls two or three times a week. The Chief Minister added that the government has identified that the unemployment problem is largely due to lack of skills and to address this, the government has upgraded 75 ITIs to Advanced Technology Centers in collaboration with TATA. He added that efforts are ongoing to provide skills training to the unemployed through the Young India Skills University.
