Operation Dhoolpet registers 102 cases, sets record in ganja seizures

Hyderabad: Hyderabad’s Excise Department has set a new record with the success of Operation Dhoolpet, which has registered 102 cases, significantly disrupting the illegal ganja trade in the city. Launched on July 17, 2024, the operation aimed to curb ganja sales, particularly in the Dhoolpet area, where illegal drug trade had flourished. The operation has so far yielded results, with 102 cases registered, 327 individuals arrested, and 401 kilograms of ganja seized.
Over the course of 250 days, the operation has charged 425 individuals, with 327 arrests made. While 85 individuals remain on the run, the authorities have confiscated 401 kilograms of ganja and seized significant assets, including 147 mobile phones, 58 bikes, and 2 cars. A total of 13 individuals have been bound over, and one person has been charged under the PD Act.
Notably, the operation has also seen the arrest of women involved in the ganja trade and inter-state suppliers from Odisha. Sales in Dhoolpet have decreased by over 90%, and the Excise Department has set up specialized teams to continue targeting illegal activities in both Dhoolpet and other parts of Hyderabad.
The operation’s success has led authorities to expand its reach, with multiple enforcement teams, including the STF, HTF, and DTF, working to extend the crackdown to other areas. V.B. Kamalasan Reddy, Director of Enforcement, Prohibition, and Excise Department, highlighted that Operation Dhoolpet will continue until all illicit ganja sales in the city are eradicated, ensuring a long-term reduction in drug-related offenses across Hyderabad.
