Viral Instagram reel showing youths allegedly offering marijuana as prasadam near Dharmagiri Temple in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: A video filmed near Dharmagiri Temple has triggered outrage after a few youngsters allegedly offered marijuana as “prasadam” to Lord Shiva during Maha Shivaratri and shared the clip on Instagram.

The reel went viral within hours, drawing sharp criticism from citizens. Several users tagged Hyderabad Police on social media and demanded strict action against the youths.

Following the complaints, police began verifying the video. Officials reportedly identified the youths as residents of Badangpet.

Police verification under way after complaints

Responding to the controversy on social media, Hyderabad City Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar condemned the act. He questioned whether people would go to any extent for online fame.

“Displaying narcotic substances in the name of devotion is a serious offence,” he said, warning that legal action would follow.

Police officials said such actions would not be tolerated and that strict measures would be taken against those involved.

Maha Shivaratri termed sacred spiritual occasion

Calling Maha Shivaratri a sacred occasion symbolising devotion and spiritual upliftment, the commissioner described the act as irresponsible and offensive.

Authorities also urged youth to use social media responsibly. They advised them to channel creativity in a positive direction instead of engaging in unlawful activities for likes and views.
