Dhanwantari Foundation International scam

HYDERABAD: The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crimes & Special Investigation Team (SIT), Hyderabad, has proposed to hold a meeting with victims of the Dhanwantari Foundation International (DFI) scam. The proposed meeting will take place at the 5th Floor Conference Hall, Central Crime Station (CCS) Building, Basheerbagh from 1:30 pm onwards on Monday (July 8). Victims are urged to attend and contribute to the discussion for a successful meeting.

On June 30, approximately 350 elderly Brahmins held a press conference at the Basheerbagh Press Club. They detailed how they were deceived by DFI, which allegedly collected around ₹1,000 crores under the pretext of building Brahmin settlements and conducting service activities. They accused DFI founder Panthangi Kamalakar Sharma and his family of diverting these funds to dummy companies for personal enrichment. The victims demanded the government auction off the properties acquired illegally and return the proceeds to them. They also requested the seizure of Kamalakar Sharma’s passports and called for a special investigation team led by an IG-level officer to probe DFI’s fraud.

Dhanwantari Foundation International founder arrested for fraud

Earlier, on April 3, CCS police arrested Kamalakar Sharma, the main orchestrator of the DFI scam. DFI, registered in 2004, promised high returns and interest rates to retired Brahmin employees, leading many to invest their retirement savings. One such victim, Narasimhamurthy from New Bhoiguda, invested ₹1 lakh in 2011 and received 12% interest until 2019.

DFI later launched several companies under various names, such as DFI Nirman Pvt. Ltd., Dharani Shelters Pvt. Ltd., DFI Hospitals Pvt. Ltd., and others. These companies collected substantial investments from victims under the guise of real estate projects. A total of 24 victims invested ₹3.04 crores in these companies and were defrauded. Last year, victims reported the scam to CCS police, who registered a case and began investigations. Recently, an ACP Adinarayana-led team arrested Kamalakar Sharma and is searching for other suspects involved.

Representatives from various Brahmin associations, including Brahmin Welfare Bhavan CEO Giriprasad Sharma and leaders Darshanam Sharma, Basavaraju, and Srinivasulu, have demanded a CID investigation into Kamalakar Sharma’s frauds. They revealed that he collected ₹350 crores from Brahmins across Telangana, Karnataka, and North India under the pretext of land purchase investments. Over 4 thousand Brahmins fell victim to his schemes.

In light of these events, the upcoming meeting on July 8 aims to address the grievances of the victims and discuss further action. The authorities encourage all victims to participate and ensure their voices are heard. The police and investigative teams are committed to bringing justice to those affected by the DFI scam.
