Demand for metro services to North Hyderabad intensifies, BRS MLA leads protest

Hyderabad: BRS Quthbullapur MLA KP Vivekananda Goud has demanded the Revanth Reddy-led Congress government to extend the metro rail up to Medchal.
The BRS legislator led a protest rally on Sunday to raise the demand for an extension covering most parts of Medchal. Vivekananda and his followers were seen holding placards in both English and Telugu with the slogans “We demand Medchal metro”.
Previously, the BRS leader and the members of Medchal Metro Sadhana Samithi met Hyderabad Metro Rail managing director NVS Reddy and submitted a representation to seek an extension of metro rail services to Quthbullapur.
Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) has proposed to extend the metro rail services under the phase II project covering a distance of 116.2 km with five corridors. The phase II with an estimated cost of Rs. 8,000 crore will connect the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) at Shamshabad to the proposed Fourth City.
Vivekananda proposed the HAML to include Quthbullapur under the phase II as thousands of people visit Hyderabad daily for work and the extension of metro rail network would cut down their commuting time.
He added that on one route, the HAML could connect Gandi Maisamma to Bharat Nagar metro station via Suraram, Jeedimetla, Shahpur Nagar, and Balanagar Chowrasta while the second route would link Medchal to Secunderabad via Kompally, Suchitra, and Bowenpally.
Earlier this month, the BRS leader had reminded the Chief Minister Revanth Reddy that he had promised to the people during an election campaign that if voted to power, the Congress government would extend metro rail services to Quthbullapur constituency.
