Listen to Story

HYDERABAD: A deer was found dead inside Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park on Saturday, reportedly after being mauled by stray dogs. The incident has once again highlighted the lack of protection for deer inside the park.

Morning walkers near the Mansoorabad gate spotted the injured deer’s carcass and alerted the park authorities, who later buried it within the premises.

Stray dog menace in national park raises safety concern

According to local sources, around eight to ten deer have died in the past ten days after being attacked by dogs that strayed into the park. Residents alleged that packs of stray dogs from the Autonagar dumping yard area are entering the park and preying on deer.

Officials are said to be taking steps to prevent the information from reaching the public. Locals, however, said they had earlier requested authorities to construct a proper compound wall to keep stray animals out, but no action was taken.

They have now urged the park management to take effective measures to protect wildlife from such attacks.
