Telugu Student Deepthi Vangavolu Dies In Hit And Run Incident In Texas

Hyderabad: A 23-year-old Telugu student died after sustaining critical injuries in a hit-and-run incident in Austin, Texas.

The deceased has been identified as Deepthi Vangavolu, a native of Rajendranagar 2nd Lane in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, was pursuing her Master’s degree at the University of North Texas in Denton. She was just a month away from completing her course.

The incident occurred on April 12, when Deepthi and her friend Snigdha, a fellow student from Medikonduru, were walking along a road in Austin. A speeding vehicle struck both of them and fled the scene. Deepthi suffered severe head injuries and was hospitalized in critical condition. Snigdha also sustained injuries and is currently undergoing treatment. Her condition is reported to be stable.

Deepthi’s family was informed by her friends, and efforts were made to raise funds for her treatment through crowdfunding platforms. Despite the response and medical efforts, she passed away three days later.

Local authorities have informed her family, who confirmed the news. Her body is expected to reach Guntur by Saturday, April 19.

Deepthi was the daughter of Hanumantha Rao, a small-time businessman. Her parents had sold their farmland to support her education abroad.

They had planned to attend her graduation ceremony, which was scheduled for next month. They last spoke to her on April 10, when she told them she was rushing to college and would call again on Sunday. That brief conversation turned out to be her last. The news of her death has left her family and community in deep mourning.
