North Zone Transgender Meeting

HYDERABAD: The Deputy Commissioner of Police, North Zone, on Wednesday interacted with members of the transgender community to address welfare-related issues, livelihood opportunities and public order concerns.

About 25 transgender persons from the North Zone attended the meeting at the DCP North Zone office. Participants flagged lack of social acceptance, limited livelihood options, non-availability of identity cards and delays in issuance of transgender certificates, which they said were affecting access to government welfare schemes.

Public complaints over nuisance and alleged extortion during social functions were also discussed during the interaction.

The DCP encouraged skill development, self-employment and dignified livelihood options, assuring that genuine grievances would be taken up with the concerned departments for welfare and rehabilitation. Participants were advised to desist from intimidation or extortion, with police warning of legal action if such practices continued.

The meeting concluded with an assurance of continued engagement with the community, promotion of lawful livelihoods, maintenance of public order, and protection of the dignity and rights of all citizens.
