DCP Chaitanya fires at thief during Chaderghat security check

One injured after DCP opens fire during mobile snatching chase
HYDERABAD:A firing incident took place at Chaderghat’s Victoria Playground during a police security check when South East Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Chaitanya opened fire at a mobile snatcher who tried to attack his gunman.
According to police, DCP Chaitanya and his gunman were conducting security checks when they noticed a man snatching a mobile phone. When the gunman tried to catch him, the accused attempted to attack him with a knife.

Hyderabad Commissioner of Police C V Anand Sajjanar said, “When the accused tried to assault the gunman, DCP Chaitanya acted immediately. He took the weapon from his gunman and fired at the accused in self-defence.”
Three rounds fired; one suspect injured, another absconding
Police said DCP Chaitanya fired three rounds, injuring one of the suspects. The injured person was shifted to a hospital in Nampally. The second suspect fled from the spot. Police teams are searching for him.
Commissioner Sajjanar said, “The situation is under control. One accused is in hospital and efforts are on to trace the other.”
Police strengthen security in the area
The incident caused brief tension in the locality. Police have stepped up patrolling in Chaderghat and nearby areas. An inquiry is under way.
