DCA seizes ₹18,000 worth of medicines from unlicensed premises in DCA
HYDERABAD : The Drugs Control Administration (DCA), Telangana, seized medicines worth ₹18,000 after raiding a premises in Chandrayangutta, Hyderabad, where drugs were allegedly being stocked and sold without a valid licence.
Officials conducted the raid on July 17 at House No. 18-9-9/48 following information about the illegal sale of medicines. During the inspection, they found that Aslam Bin Salam Bajaber was allegedly stocking and selling medicines without a valid drug licence.
Antibiotics among 11 varieties of medicines seized
Officials seized 11 varieties of medicines, including antibiotics and other drugs, from the premises. Samples of the medicines have been collected for laboratory analysis.
The raid was conducted by Assistant Director B. Dinesh Kumar, Drugs Inspector B. Lakshmi (Charminar) and Drugs Inspector Ch. Swapna (Jubilee Hills).
DCA warns wholesalers against supplying unlicensed entities
The Drugs Control Administration said further investigation is underway and action will be taken under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act against those found responsible.
The department also warned that wholesalers and dealers supplying medicines to unlicensed entities are liable for prosecution under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. It directed all wholesalers and dealers to verify the validity of a recipient’s drug licence before supplying medicines.
The DCA said stocking medicines for sale without a valid drug licence is punishable under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act with imprisonment of up to five years.
The department urged the public to report illegal stocking, sale or suspected manufacture of medicines, including narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, through its toll-free helpline 1800-599-6969, available from 10.30 IST to 17.00 IST on all working days.
