HYDERABAD: The Drug Control Administration (DCA), Telangana, conducted raids at retail medical shops across the state on February 21, 2026, as part of a special enforcement drive to curb the illegal sale of habit-forming drugs.

The inspections focused on the unauthorised sale of codeine-containing cough syrups and psychotropic medicines, including Nitrazepam tablets, Alprazolam tablets, Tramadol tablets, Zolpidem tablets and Tapentadol tablets.

Officials said discrepancies were detected in 166 medical shops during the drive.

The department issued show cause notices to the erring establishments and initiated departmental action, including suspension or cancellation of drug licences.

The DCA stated that the special drive was aimed at checking the illegal distribution of habit-forming medicines and ensuring compliance with the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and Rules.
